I'm trying to download the sims 2 from the app store for my macbook air, I have 10.27 GB of space and the game takes up 7.52 GB. Whenever I go to purchase the game it tells me that there is not enough disk space available to install the product. Can anyone help me as to why this is saying this.. I can't think why and I've deleted so many files trying to free up space.

Go step by step and test.

1. Start up in Safe Mode.

2. Empty Trash.

3. Delete "Recovered Messages", if any.

Hold the option key down and click "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.

Select "Library" from the dropdown.

Library > Mail > V2 > Mailboxes

Delete "Recovered Messages", if any.

Empty Trash. Restart.

4. Delete old iOS Devices Backup.

iTunes > Preferences > Devices

Highlight the old Backups , press “Delete Backup” and then “OK”.

5. Re-index Macintosh HD.

System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy

First, the App Store will not allow a download that, when expanded, would leave less than the minimum amount of available space on the startup volume that Apple considers necessary, which is about 9 GB. The download is a compressed archive that will usually expand to about twice its size. Both the archive and the expanded files will be present at the same time, so the actual amount of space needed is about three times the size of the archive.

If you're trying to add a large amount of data all at once, and you get an alert of insufficient space, then from the menu bar, select

 ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Time Machine

If the padlock icon is closed, click it to unlock the settings and authenticate. Turn Time Machine OFF, then back ON and close the preference pane. Restart the computer. Test.
