It might be some third party application is causing this issue. Let us place the computer in a clean boot state and check.

Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

Note: Once you perform clean boot do refer to the section How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting to boot the computer in normal mode.

Hi Abdul Malik,

I tried the clean boot but this didn't change anything : I still get the same message and Guitar Hero doesn't start up.

Someone told me I should try to start up in a Windows 7 compatibility mode, but when I right-click on the executable file I don't see a "compatibility" tab at all...

I suggest you to disable any antivirus program on the system. Disable Antivirus and security-related products, if you have any Antivirus installed for (Free) uninstall it, if not then disable the Antivirus and check if issue is resolved.

I only have the information on the German version of Guitar Hero 3, and it uses SecuROM copy protection.

If you are using the disk based version of the game it may be Windows is preventing if from launching.

Versions of SecuROM and SafeDisk are being blocked by a malware developed by MS called DRM Blocking.

If the game has a file titled  secdrv.sys (a driver used by SecuROM and SafeDisk) on the  disk it will be blocked.

The only way to circumvent  DRM Blocking in Win10 is to use a noCD fix/patch/hack.

You haven't dug far enough. The Compatibility tab is in Properties , but it will not help if the game is being blocked.

Hi, sorry for answering so late, I've been on holidays for a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately disabling Windows Defender (the only anti virus program I have) doesn't help.
