This article covers one method of transferring game files for Minecraft for mobile devices, Windows 10, Switch, VR and Xbox consoles. If you need help with moving Minecraft: Java Edition, go here.
Due to how files are stored on these devices, it can be difficult to "copy and paste" them from one device to another. However, there are two methods available to help you transfer your worlds. It is possible to transfer worlds between these devices using a Minecraft Realm or, if you play on an iOS device, through the iCloud method.
Transferring Your World Using a Realm
You will need an active Minecraft Realm in order to do this. If you have not yet used your Realms trial, you can use that to transfer your worlds. For information about Minecraft Realms and how to start a Realm, go here.
Once you have created a Realm, follow these instructions:
- From the first device, please do the following:
- Select the pen icon next to your Realm from the Realms list
- Select "Replace World" and confirm
- Choose the world you would like to transfer
- Wait for the upload and select "Let's go!"
- Access Minecraft from the second device and do the following:
- Select the pen icon next to your Realm from the Realms list
- Select "Download World"
- Wait for the download and select "Let's go!"
Your world has now been transferred from one device to another! If you wish to transfer more than one world, you can repeat the same process.
Please note that you will need to use the same Edition of Minecraft and the same Xbox Live account in order for this to work.
Transferring Your World Using the iCloud Method (iOS Devices Only)
Here are the step-by-step directions to transfer via iCloud
1. Open up the Files app on the old iPad
2. Under Browse you should see “On My iPad”- tap to open
3. You should see a folder with Minecraft. Tap to open
4. You’ll see a folder called games. Tap to open
5. Next a folder called com.mojang. Tap to to open
6. Next a file called minecraftWorlds. This has all your worlds in it. Tap & hold to bring up the menu.
7. Tap on “Save to Files”
8. In this menu you should see your iCloud drive. Save it to any of the iCloud Drive folders where you’ll remember where it is (I believe the Downloads folder is the default
9. Press ‘Save’ at the top
The worlds are now saved to your iCloud. It’s good to do this periodically anyway so you’ll always have a backup!
On the new iPad…
1. Open the Files app
2. In the Browse screen, go to iCloud Drive
3. Tap on the folder where you saved the minecraftWorlds folder (I saved mine to Downloads)
4. You should see the minecraftWorlds folder – tap & hold to bring up the menu
5. In the menu, choose copy
6. Tap on iCloud Drive at the top next to Downloads to go back
7. Tap on “Locations” at the very top to go back
8. You should now be in the main Browse menu. Tap on On My iPad
9. Tap on Minecraft
10. Tap on Games
11. Tap on com.Mojang
12. Anywhere on the next screen that is not a folder, tap & hold to bring up the menu
13. Choose “paste”
14. There will be a pop-up asking if you want to replace it with the one you’re copying. Note that this will override any new saved games they may have made on the new iPad. Tap on “replace”
Your world has now been transferred from one device to another! If you wish to transfer more than one world, you can repeat the same process.
