Description
Full-featured, ad-supported pinochle app for iPhone and iPad. Play single- or double-deck with configurable options including meld bids and shoot the moon. Pinochle is updated frequently with user-suggested features and AI improvements. Also available in the App Store is a paid version with NO advertising: Pinochle Gold.
Pinochle is a card game played with a 48- or 80-card deck of 9s, 10s, jacks, queens, kings and aces. The game consists of a repeating sequence of bidding (for the right to name the trump suit and optionally to pass cards), melding, and trick-taking. Players score points by melding various card combinations and by taking tricks.
In this version, one human player (South) plays with a computer partner (North) and two computer opponents (West and East).
BIDDING: Each player bids the number of points she thinks she can make with her hand. Player to the dealer's left is required to bid, and bidding proceeds to the left. Players who pass are out of the bidding for that hand. A typical high bid is 35 points (for 48 cards) or 60 (for 80 cards). High bidder names the trump suit for the hand and optionally exchanges cards with her partner.
MELDING: Players get points by showing various card combinations. A run (or straight) in the trump suit is worth 15 points. Aces in all four suits is 10 points. Pinochle (queen of spades and jack of diamonds) is 4 points, or 30 points for double pinochle (two of each).
TRICKS: Play begins with the high bidder, and proceeds around the table to the left, 4 cards per trick. Each trick has a winner, who gets 1 point per ace, ten or king.
SCORING: If the high bidder fails to make the bid (his team's total meld plus trick points is less than the bid), the bid amount is subtracted from the team score. Play continues until one team goes out.

Need to improve partner
Overall, it’s the best pinochle game out there, until I find one with live players. I agree with the poor play of North partner. Although maybe it’s improved in the last year?
Biggest pet peeve is that north might open up the bid, so that you pass a potential hand, then *immediately* pass!
Second biggest pet peeve, another review mentions this, is that it will bid to high 30s on three legs of double pinochle, it will bid you off it, unopposed from E-W!
Then, yes. I have noticed that north will pass a pair of Trump instead of aces or pinochle.
It should be easy to program a few more hard, fast, rules that all players abide by.
Terrible partner with choices on bids and plays.
The person who wrote the program is responsible for the stupid, ignorant, idiotic plays coming from the north jerk. N will pass holding a nice run, always saves a point card to give to E W on the last play when E W always saves a trump card for the extra point. When S picks trump, idiot N always holds the 10 when passing cards in deference to the J or Q. It really angers me when it means no run and a poor hand. N ALWAYS BIDS INTO THE 30’s when holding 3 aces even with the rest of the hand garbage! If N is dealt 3 out of 4 pinochle, get ready for a high mid 30 or higher bid. I see all this because I show all cards. N will always pass a double J or Q with the 3 card pass to S instead of Aces, when S takes the bid, more often than not ruining more possible points. I am bidding toward a strong hand and the double pass, especially J’s is worthless and shows that the programmer doesn’t understand the game enough. Please fix these stated problems. I’ve sworn off this game over 100 times because of them but keep coming back one more time.
Terrible Partner.
You can show show the cards of all players in this game. Discovering this actually took some of the fun out of the game but it also reveals how terrible your partner AI is with bidding. I deleted this game when my partner had a run plus extra trump in their hand but they wanted to “bid or bunch.” In other words, throw out the hand and re-deal to everyone. In single deck pinochle you hope to get a run in you trump suit. When you’re dealt one it’s awesome and gives a 90% chance of making out bid and dominating the cars play.
The partner has also given up bids while holding 7/8 Aces. Another hand that could easily control the game. As a player you can’t take every bid. But its frustrating and defeating when your partner often throws the game for you.
You can adjust the settings to make the computer more bold, but that usually seems to make the opponents stronger, not your partner.
