Chrome Window Moves When Downloading a File (MacOS) 1 Recommended Answer 13 Replies81 Upvotes
I've provided some screenshots below to show what is actually happening, but here's the sequence to reproduce this issue.
1. Attempt to Download a File
2. The Download Dialog Box pops up, but is clearly too large for the screen. As you might notice, the "Cancel" and "Download" buttons are cut off on the bottom of the screen. I've been pressing return to initiate the downloads. The pop-up can't be moved or dragged upwards.
3. After accepting the download, the entire window is shifted downwards.
Chrome didn't always do this. It began happening perhaps a few months ago. Not entirely sure when.

When you click 'download' and the dialogue box appears, it's too big for the screen by default so makes the window move down. Next time you click download, click the side of the dialogue box and hold down the 'shift' key while you resize it. From then on, the window won't keep moving down the screen when you download files.

It happens after uploading files too. Annoying.

For those of you who have disabled the prompt window like I had:
I went into Chrome Settings, re-enabled 'Ask where to save each file before downloading', downloaded something, shift-click-dragged the window to make it smaller, went back into settings, and disabled the 'Ask me' setting again. Seems to have worked.
