As much as Lonzo Ball has struggled with injuries and poor shooting of late, the Los Angeles Lakers rookie is still faring better in the NBA than he is in the music world.

According to The Shadow League’s Keith Nelson, ZO’s debut mixtape, “Born 2 Ball,” sold 19,000 units in its first month, per data from Nielsen. Of that number, 15,000 counted as streaming equivalent albums (SEA), wherein 1,500 streams are equivalent to one album sold.

All told, “Born 2 Ball” was streamed 22 million times between mid-February and mid-March, with 19 million coming within the first two weeks of its release. About half of those total streams came by way of two songs—”Super Saiyan” and “ZO2″—the latter of which was the most popular on the mixtape with nearly six million streams.

For comparison, according to Hip Hop DX’s Henry Mansell, “Black Panther: The Album,” which came out a week before the Feb. 16 release of “Born 2 Ball,” accounted for close to 48,000 “total album equivalent units”, with upwards of 55 million streams, during the last week of March alone. That same week, “Born 2 Ball” moved about 1,000 equivalent copies.

That appears to be an improvement from mid-March, when “Born 2 Ball” reportedly drew no album download purchases, and only 100 Track Equivalent Album sales (i.e. 10 track downloads count as one album), between the weeks of March 8 and March 15.

This isn’t to suggest that the Crown Prince of Chino Hills is a complete and utter failure as a rapper and recording artist. Rather, as with his budding basketball career, it’s going to take significant investments of time and effort for him to realize his full potential.
