Using The Designs In Modern Quilts
This is where the rubber meets the road, or more specifically, where the needle meets the fabric. You have practiced your designs several times and are now ready to apply them to your favorite quilts. But in which quilts should you use them, and how? That is exactly what this section is about. I will show you some common scenarios in modern quilts and discuss different options for quilting them.
Disclaimer: The opinions and ideas contained in this section do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the modern quilting community. I give the above warning in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way, but it is true. Keep in mind that the tips and suggestions I give here are what have worked for me. Take what you like, leave what you donât, and just have fun with the process.
When I am allowed to decide how to quilt my customersâ quilts, I usually rely on my own preferences. My personal motto is, 'Quilt until you have quilted too muchâand then quilt some more.' I love lots and lots of quilting. Most of the quilts you will see in this section are quilted very densely. I always want the quilting to complement the piecing, not overpower itâa challenge because of my fondness for dense quilting. To accomplish this, I use matching thread that blends with the quilt top.
