All LaCie storage products are capable of receiving files via "Drag and drop." This process allows the operating system (in this case, Mac OS) to transfer files to the drive, directly. No additional software or configuration is required to use a drive in this way.
Drag and drop is the most common, and easiest way to add data to an external hard drive.
To begin, Open Mac HD. All files stored inside a computer are located within this, though there are usually short cuts to get to different locations in the hard drive. The Desktop, or Documents folder are other common locations to store files.
For this example, the item to be "Dragged and dropped" is a folder called "BACKUP." In this case, it is conveniently located in the beginning of the Mac HD, and named "BACKUP" so it could be easily identified.
The next step is to open the destination. Available disks on Macintosh usually appear on the desktop. In this case, it is the other icon on the desktop called "LaCie Disk".
Double-click the LaCie Disk icon to open a Finder window pointing to that location. Usually, Finder doesn't put windows in convenient locations like in the example. Move the window so both can be seen at the same time if this doesn't happen automatically.
The folder is now ready to be copied. Left-click the item to be copied, but hold the button down. Move the icon to where it should be copied (drag), then release the button (drop.)
The operating system has provided a progress window to indicate that it is copying the files. Note how the BACKUP folder in the LaCie Disk window is somewhat faded. This means the files are still copying.
After the file has finished copying, the data is saved onto the LaCie disk.
